TR-YÖS Score Calculation 2026: Formula, 0.45-0.55 Weights and How to Use the Calculator
How is the TR-YÖS score calculated? Net = correct − wrong/4, a standard score with a mean of 50, Quantitative Ability weight 0.45 and Basic Mathematics weight 0.55, the 100-500 scale and the limits of the calculator.
Last Update: October 2026 | The score calculation is explained according to the "Evaluation of Exam Results" section of the 2026 TR-YÖS/2 guide.

The TR-YÖS score is a standard score in the 100-500 range, calculated from your nets in the Quantitative Ability and Basic Mathematics tests. The net is calculated exactly (correct − wrong/4); the score, however, depends on the mean and standard deviation of the candidates who take that session, so no tool can give you an exact score in advance. Rehber Panda's TR-YÖS score calculator shows your net exactly and your score approximately. In this article I explain the formula step by step and what the tool can and cannot do.
How Is the TR-YÖS Score Calculated? (Guide Formula)
- Raw score: In each test, one quarter of the number of wrong answers is subtracted from the number of correct answers. Example: 30 correct and 8 wrong in Quantitative Ability → 30 − 2 = 28 raw score.
- Standard score: The raw scores of each test are converted into a standard score so that the mean of all candidates is 50 and the standard deviation is 10.
- Weight: The Quantitative Ability standard score is multiplied by 0.45 and the Basic Mathematics standard score by 0.55, and the results are added.
- Scale: The weighted scores are transformed so that, among themselves, the smallest becomes 100 and the largest becomes 500.
- Condition: For a score to be calculated, a raw score of 0.5 or more is required in at least one of the tests.
Note: The high school diploma grade (OBP) is not added to the TR-YÖS score. Some state universities may use the secondary-school grade average as a separate admission criterion, but it is not part of the TR-YÖS score.
Why Can't an Exact Score Be Calculated?
The standard score measures the position of your net relative to the other candidates in that session. If the average of the candidates in the same session is high, the same net is worth a lower score; if the average is low, it is worth a higher score. Because this distribution is known only after the exam:
- Your net can be calculated exactly,
- Your score can only be estimated approximately,
- Fixed tables of the "this net is enough for this department" kind are misleading.
How to Use the Calculator
- Open the TR-YÖS score calculator page.
- Enter your numbers of correct and wrong answers for the Quantitative Ability and Basic Mathematics tests (each test has 40 questions).
- The tool shows the net of each test and the total net exactly, and the TR-YÖS score approximately.
- For a department target, compare the score with the minimum score announced by the university you will apply to.
The tool does not make ranking or department predictions, because there is no central placement in TR-YÖS and each university announces its own admission criteria.
Example: Net Calculation
| Test | Correct | Wrong | Net |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quantitative Ability (40) | 30 | 8 | 28 |
| Basic Mathematics (40) | 26 | 12 | 23 |
In this example, the 12 wrong answers in Basic Mathematics cancelled 3 correct answers. Because mathematics weighs more in the score with its 0.55 coefficient, the decision to leave an uncertain math question blank directly affects your score.
Coaching Observation
In the coaching process, the point students get stuck on most is mistaking the score they see in practice exams for the real score. The scores of practice-exam publishers are calculated against their own candidate pools; that is why I recommend tracking progress through net and wrong-answer rate rather than through score. Tracking the nets of the two tests separately each week shows much more clearly which test you should devote time to.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the TR-YÖS score out of?
The TR-YÖS score is in the 100-500 range. The weighted scores are transformed so that, among themselves, the smallest becomes 100 and the largest becomes 500.
Which is more important, Quantitative Ability or Basic Mathematics?
Basic Mathematics enters the score with a coefficient of 0.55 and Quantitative Ability with 0.45. Although the difference is small, every net in mathematics affects the score slightly more.
Why might the score given by the calculator differ from my result document?
Because the real score is calculated according to the mean and standard deviation of all the candidates who took that session. The tool cannot know this distribution; it shows your net exactly and your score approximately.
Is the high school grade added to the TR-YÖS score?
No. The TR-YÖS score is calculated only from the results of the two tests. Some universities may use the secondary-school grade average as a separate admission criterion.
How many years is the TR-YÖS score valid?
According to the 2026 TR-YÖS/2 guide, the validity period of TR-YÖS is 2 years from the exam date.
